I love makeup!

A bit of my makeup collection

When I went to kindergarten in the morning I remember putting surma aka kajal in my eyes before leaving. It was a ritual of mine from the past year. My mom always put it on me (started as a infant) and then I started putting it on myself. It’s actually good for your eyes cleans the white in your eye so they stay brighter. Downfall of surma is that it smudges throughout the day making you look like a panda. (PANDA PANDA PANDA PANDA PANDA) This continues till today though thankfully now I have the Magic Khol pencil from Givenchy you can find it at Sephora . It is worth all $26 dollars because it doesn’t budge, my mom has one too ❤

In 8th grade I started wearing eyeliner and it was so much fun to put on it had to be perfect. Pond’s cream and q-tips gave me fleeky liner. My older sister, Sadia baji (baji means older sister) is a super girly girl just like my mom. She had tons of makeup and accessories, luckily for me her room was across from mine growing up. She’s 12 years older than me and she always stays updated with the newest makeup. I specifically remember a really deep electric blue Maybelline eye shadow that I used to put in my waterline ugh I loved it so much. [TRAGIC STORY! One morning I was in the mood for the electric blue waterline and I had the eyeshadow on the sink and it fell and shattered and so did my heart and I was also shit scared because my sister was going to be really disappointed. My sister takes really good care of her stuff, I on the other hand was careless up until 2 years ago. Now I take care of all my goodies no matter how much it cost even if it was free or $1 I treat it like it was $100.] I was never into eyeshadow or even mascara or foundation until 2013. After I moved in with Sa is when I actually bought one of those Sephora contraptions with everything in it eyeshadow of every color of the rainbow, lip gloss and blush. After that I got a little crazy and I found out about E.L.F and became obsessed. That small tapered brush (I STILL HAVE IT) is the best for contouring OMG love it! The lashes were amazing and so were those bronzers.

As I get older I become more curious and more risky. Shoutout to all the YouTubers and Instagramers for all the inspiration and the lessons (Desi, Nicole, Amrezy, and many more) Thankfully I am more of aware of important things like pigmentation, and which matte and which glitter eyeshadows work with my skin tone, and nudes, pink nudes, peach nudes don’t like them on myself. I really dislike cream lipsticks unless it’s a special event. I love love matte lipsticks they are just perfect for me. Getting samples, testing products on my hand first, are few other things I have learned along the way. My sisters and I have yearly subscriptions of Ipsy and we love the little bags and the goodies. I will share my Ipsy bag with you next month. This is the first of my many makeup post to come. I will be sharing tricks and tips.

I love makeup because it allows me to reflect my mood and I love getting dressed up because it makes me feel strong and confident. I enjoy the process of getting ready to go somewhere be it work, a meeting, or a special event. I love blasting music and getting in the mood. I lay out my clothes and matching accessories.

Below you’ll find photos of my progress 2013 to 2016, my skin {alhumdulillah} has cleared up so much. Baby hair on fleek lol I applied my lashes in the top photo in the car while sitting between my father and sister. My father was so freaked out by the falsies LOL!

I’ve recently discovered that peaches, purples, and browns make my brown eyes pop more. The picture below is from yesterday (November 2016) I’ve experimented with purple eyeliner which came in my Ipsy bag. The glow is courtesy of Becca’s Jaclyn Hill highlighter in Champagne Pop.

Do you love makeup? What is your obsession?

“Where’s the receipt from Costco?”

My husband has taught me many ways to save. One thing I’m thankful for is his obsession to save receipts. Have you ever picked up food and ended up being disappointed? I sure have, if you’re disappointed after paying for something you should inform the establishment. There are also times when you rush to purchase something and it ends up expired (my mom taught me to check dates before purchasing when I was 7) if you have a receipt chances are you can get your money back or something not expired in exchange. In the picture above I am posing proudly near my fridge which has Costco receipts on it. These receipts are a reminder to return a few items. My husband taught me how saving receipts saves money. A lot of places will take back items and give you store credit.

So ladies and gentlemen whenever you’re grabbing a quick nail polish from CVS or George Foreman from Costco it’s important to take your receipts and store them in a folder somewhere with your bills and other paper work.

Stay tuned on more tips to save…

Nice to meet ya. . .

Hi 👋 I’m Aruj.

So funky

I was born in 1990 in NYC. My parents and siblings welcomed me with loving arms. I was raised as a free spirit. My first language was Urdu. My first accessory request was a purse. My favorite animals are elephants and dogs 🐶  🐘 they’re loyal and highly intelligent.

My favorite spice is turmeric. I love to reap all it’s wonderful benefits. Stay tuned for some of the ways I use turmeric in the kitchen and medicinally.

Throughout my life I’ve always remembered being silly, being serious was so boring. My husband always reminds me of how refreshing my sense of humor is for him. We bump to songs all the way to work and sometimes  the conversations just take over. Any way our commute can sometimes be 2 hours because of traffic in NYC. There’s construction every which way our Waze app points us. We make the best of our commute.

The environment I work in is very different from any other job I’ve ever had. Working with crystals is such a joy. Each crystal makes you feel a special way and has special proprieties. Sharing my knowledge of crystals with my clients at work is a great gift. Helping others is rewarding in itself. I graduated from John Jay College with a BA in English. For me working at the Bookshop is a dream come true.

Working on 5th avenue allows me to use my sense of style to dress for all four crazy seasons. Shopping for me is a game of deals. Never pay full price unless it’s forever 21 or H & M. The past few years I’ve realized that there isn’t any point of spending on designer clothes. Designer handbags, yes! Shoes not so much.  Also remaining comfortable is important. I will be sharing the many ways I save money and still look stylish for every occasion.

Im looking forward to learning a lot more about all of you. Please leave comments and suggestions below
